Grassroots Grants up for Grabs

Ealing & Brentford Consolidated Charity (EBCC) has engaged Upward Curve PR to provide PR and media support to promote Grassroots Grants in Ealing.

The new scheme is part of a £130 million national drive by the Government to support thousands of groups and projects, working to improve their local communities, which was launched this summer.

Grants of between £250 – £5000 are available to a range of local groups with an annual turnover of less than twenty thousand a year.

Upward Curve has been tasked with launching the scheme in Ealing, producing promotional literature, developing a communications plan, website development and media relations.

Maria Gledhill, Chief Executive of EBCC commented “This is great news for local groups in Ealing who are doing fantastic work, often working on a shoestring and relying mainly on voluntary support. We are committed to making it as simple as possible for groups to apply and turning around applications within a fortnight, so that grants can be put to good use straight away and the money used to make a real difference in the community”.

10th Birthday

In the 10 years since Upward Curve PR was founded, we have learnt such a lot from our clients, their service users and customers and some great members of staff who have worked with us.

The passion our clients have for the issues and services and facilities they run, has been an inspiration for us.

Being awarded CIPR Fifth Estate ‘Best Agency of the Year 2006/7’ in recognition of the contribution we make to supporting clients in the not-for-profit sector and being awarded CIPR Pride Awards Home Counties Charity Campaign of the Year for an awareness campaign we developed for Coeliac UK; Are You 1 in 100? have also been highlights for the Agency.

With an increasing number of organisations both in the private and public sector recognising the value of investing in environmental and social responsibilities as well as their economic bottom line, we look forward to a successful future working on issues that we feel passionately about and helping our clients make a real difference.

UK’S FIRST CENTRE FOR FOETALLY AFFECTED CHILDREN OPENS

As part of the support Upward Curve PR is offering Parents for Children (PfC), it’s adopted Charity of the Year, the Agency handled the launch of Parents for Children’s FACT Centre; the UK’s first dedicated research and support centre for Foetally Affected Children.

The aim of the Centre is to research and establish the needs of the 7000 plus children living in the UK, who are born with lifelong incurable problems, caused by their mother’s drinking during pregnancy.

Despite the recent media focus on binge drinking and the risks for society of drugs and alcohol abuse, there has been little attention paid to the fact that 61% of women drink during pregnancy and the impact of this behaviour on the unborn child who can develop physical, behavioural and learning disabilities.

PfC set up the Centre in response to the growing number of children foetally affected by alcohol, who are being put up for fostering and adoption. Children who may have FASD can be referred to The Centre for an assessment. Once children have been assessed, they and their families can be offered a package of care, support and advice.

Dr Eddie Brocklesby, Director of Parents for Children commented:

“Children suffering from FASD are often described as highly stressed and in permanent conflict with the world, with low self esteem. These children are vulnerable members of our society who often have a traumatic journey through adolescence.

“Courts, social workers, teachers, health experts and prospective adoptive parents are making decisions about these children’s future, without realising the full implications FASD can have on their long term development.

“As Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is so little recognised, it makes it difficult for parents and teachers to understand these children’s needs. Our FACT Centre of Excellence hopes to help redress this”.
